Act I

It’s a very bad day to be Carol. Following a knock on the office door, Geneva bursts into the office looking for Lew, but Carol doesn’t know where he is. Geneva suspects that something bad has happened to her husband and she thinks that she knows who did it. Ned Beaumont. Carol doesn’t think they can help her. They don’t get involved in those kinds to cases, where people associate with the mob “disappear”. Ned Beaumont told Geneva that he loved her just before she ran away with Orestes and got married.

Desiree goes to Lew’s office as well. Carol introduces herself. Lew has a lot of stuff on his plate and she doesn’t know where he is. Was Carol rolling her eyes at Desiree? Didn’t Lew come back and tell Carol about their time by the river? Carol says that they don’t associate with people associated with the mob. Desiree says that her ties to the mob are adios. Carol wonders Lew has turned over a new leaf. Desiree thought of Lew as a brother, until their time on the river. Carol has lost her best friend. It’s hard to be Carol.

Antigone goes to Lew’s office. Carol isn’t there, but Magda is. Antigone is looking for someone. She’s been looking everywhere for answers. Magda offers her some shawarma, but Antigone would rather have a drink. Magda recognizes her. Antigone lost a dime, a necklace, and her son. He’s a little troubled. When they’re troubled, young people run off into the woods. She used to stand over Orestes’ crib with a drink and just watch him. Her baby boy is all grown up, but now he’s missing. Magda is a very good listener, and Antigone calms down. She has even searched down by the river with the e coli. Magda asks what she knows about Orestes’ wife? His wife?!? That’s almost sobering! Married to whom? Magda doesn’t know if she should be the one to tell her. There’s a rival family… Antigone is sober now. Someone will pay. Orestes wife was also here looking for her husband. They both disappeared after their wedding. What’s her full name? Magda can do that one better. She’ll show her where she lives.

Desiree and Geneva are both catching up, even though Desiree didn’t even know Geneva existed, but asks her to tell her about her husband. Desiree also has a husband, except they didn’t get married. They one up each other talking about their men. Geneva got married in their attic. Desiree was going to get married in their attic, but they were looking for something higher up. Geneva feels hurt by the way that Desiree talks about her husband. Ned Beaumont arrives to pick up Desiree. She and Ned Beaumont lay eyes on each other for the first time. Sparks fly.

So much so that Desiree can only speak in noises. She asks Geneva if this is who she married in the attic?

Hugo is looking for Lew. He sees Magda lounging in Lew’s office. She wonders what he is doing there? Lew was looking onto some things for her. He appears a little awkward. She didn’t expect to see Carol there. Carol tries to get Hugo to pay his bill for services rendered. He owes $7000. $7000?!? In these times, that’s like a million dollars! She asks what’s going on with Magda and Hugo. Margo remembers that Carol dropped her off from the trunk of Andy’s cab at Hugo’s place and he was supposed to take care of her. Thinks have just gotten complicated. Danvers arrives. Shouldn’t they be at home cleaning? Danvers reveals that they are his daughter’s father. Hugo pulls a gun, and Danvers is shot.

Geneva and Brunhild catch up. She came back early from her vacation to see Geneva. Everything has happened so fast. Antigone writes a letter to herself. She has been sober for 10 whole minutes. She will find that woman that married her son. Geneva tells her mother about her first kiss. Brunhilde didn’t think she had it in her. Antigone is a good mother. She is Mother of the Year. Where did she come up with his name? She starts another letter, this time to Orestes. He has such great hair. That runs in the family. But now she had another woman in his life. Brunhilde tells Geneva about her latest conquest.

Carl Perkins pours Magda another drink. and tells Magda that everything’s okay, Carl’s here. She asks if Jenny is there. He breaks down. You have a scene with someone and kiss and everything and then they disappear. Magda asks if Carol ever knocked Carl over the head and stuff him in her trunk? He doesn’t think so. She tells Carl what happened in Lew’s office. Hugo isn’t the father of Auralee and Desiree. Danvers is. Carl faints. You took that really hard. He thinks someone put something in the drink that he poured Magda but he drank instead.

Ned Beaumont tends to Danvers bullet wound. What is Danvers going to do? What Hugo didn’t do. Ned Beaumont says that he has a lot in common with Danvers. They’re both cleaners. Ned Beaumont gives Danvers a gun. If something happened to Hugo, someone would have to look after the family and run the newspaper. Will Ned Beaumont help clean up things with Hugo? Yes, but it may be his final job.

Act II

A recovered Carl Perkins is trying to invent a new drink to win Jenny back. He is surprised by a stranger standing by the bar. Carl puts his clothes back on. You must be Carl Perkins, right? Don’t you recognize me? I look like the other members of my family. Frogeyes! They are looking for some information. What does he know? He just learned something about murder and a child-sized gun. It’s just a little murder…

Magda talks to Carol about the books. They have bills to pay. Like Ned Beaumont’s bill. Everyone owes them money. Lew has disappeared and left them to clean up his mess. What are they going to do? Carol says that Lew has a new woman. What does she know about that? Magda and Lew don’t talk about things like that. She and Carol are smart, resourceful women. Magda thinks that they can work together. Carol wouldn’t be working for Magda, she’d work with her.

Antigone and Brunhilde are drinking together. Brunhilde wants some shawarma. Carl can share the recipe. Do I look like I cook? Antigone says that her son and his child-sized gun are missing. He’s gone and recently married. Brunhilde asks if she hasn’t figured out who he married? What would you do if she found her daughter-in-law’s mother? Drown her in the e coli. Antigone has money. What would happen if her son were to die? Who would get all his money? Does the wife or his mother get the money? He gets the money when his parents die. Interesting…

At the Nepo Kids’ club, Danvers gives Geneva some marriage advice. She worries that Orestes might never come back because she’s not good enough. Ned Beaumont just wants to know more about Desiree. Geneva is confused. She was so flattered that Ned Beaumont told her that he loved her and thought she’s string him along until she’s just settle for him. And here you are asking about another woman. Danvers says that she has a child sized hole inside their body. She has been raising her children as someone else’s. Danvers is always listening, but never being listened to. Geneva says that when you promise to love someone forever, you had better follow through. She knows what is important in life. To be handsome. Ned Beaumont just wants to be cared for. He takes care of other people’s problems, but he has problems, too. He knows who killed Orestes. This may be his last job. Carl has has an epiphany. He will open a singing bar. Whether Jenny comes back or not, Carl has found his own voice.

Desiree and Geneva ask Carol what the fuck is going on. She says that those are bills to pay. They try to pawn off their bills onto their money people. Carol says that she has locked the door and they are not going home. They have been kidnapped. She tells them both to call their parents. They are not going anywhere until the bills have been paid. Geneva calls her mother and tells her that she is in a bind. Oh, she’s in a bind for the first time. Just breathe through it. Eww! Not that! She has been kidnapped and is being held in an office that smells like smoke and wet first. She needs a lot of money now! Brunhilde asks for an address to send the money.

Magda and Hugo have a huge fight. They ask each other if they are being used. Hugo wonders if they have rushed into things. Things are all foggy. He’s just learned that he’s not the father of his own children. He doesn’t know what to think. Maybe Hugo just wanted someone to love so badly, and Magda was just there. They don’t know anything about each other. Magda says that he doesn’t know anything about her and tells him to ask her everything. What’s the dealwith Lew? He used to be so smart. they ran around until one day didn’t feel well, and she found out that she was pregnant. They comfort each other.

Geneva sets up Ned Beaumont on a date with Desiree, but he doesn’t now it’s a date. Geneva stays to help Ned Beaumont out. She tells Ned Beaumont to says that he’s on the straight and narrow now. Desiree and Ned Beaumont bond over their love of gabagool. Geneva leaves to get some. Ned Beaumont tells Desiree about being a fixer. Geneva comes back with drinks. Where’s the gabagool? They though that they implied that they wanted gabagool. Desiree finds Ned Beaumont’s work fascinating. What’s the craziest, most dangerous thing he’s ever done. In rhyme. Just last week, he was helping out a family with some business. They warn him that business is a really hard thing to rhyme. He says that he had to dispose of Big Daddy. He’s dead. Geneva is distraught.

Antigone goes to the office to find out how the investigation is going with Carol. Is she going to pay her, or what?

Carol doesn’t know how to tell Antigone. She’s been sober for 38 minutes. Carol tells her that he’s gone. Yes I know, that’s why I’m looking for him. No, he’s gone. He’s sleeping with the angels. Ezekiel comes in early for his appointment, but he has some horrible news. It’s about Lew, and it connects with Orestes and the Frogeyes murders. it’s… Shots ring out. and Ezekiel drops dead.
