Missing, Presumed Dead (Episode 6)
Act I
Danvers is thrilled that Desiree has returned to the mansion. They warn her to stay away from her father, since she’s been gone for so long. But he told me to go away! Yes… Danvers is afraid. Hugo has been… different. He’s been blowing smoke up Danvers’ ass. Not literally. Desiree is counting on Danvers to keep her hidden in the mansion.
Magda come downstairs after spending the night in the mansion to a very surprised Danvers. The ol’ spent the night with her master, the big man. Magda confirms that he is big and pours Danvers a drink. They would like to learn more about Magda. Magda has heard that Danvers is the best secret keeper. Danvers urges Magda to spill her guts. Magda has always wanted the detective agency, but her heart belongs… Upstairs?, asks Danvers. Yes it belongs upstairs with a newspaper magnate. Danvers tells Magda that she can always come downstairs and talk to her.
Jenny Ducane appears. She has a warrant and she has some questions for Desiree. Jenny introduces herself. She is there to solve a variety of crimes. Desiree pours her a drink. Desiree has been away for quite some time. Her father presumed that Desiree had stolen some items. She had a lot of reasons to come back to town. Feed the fish. See her good friend Danvers. Jenny asks Desiree if she knows the disappearing Frogeyes family. Maybe. What’s it worth to her? Jenny can’t pay much on a detective’s salary. Desiree heard some things when she was away about a connection between her father and the Frogeyeses. That’s a piece of free information for you.
Desiree goes to Lew’s office. He feels like he summoned her there with his mental powers, but he doesn’t have any. Lew is having memory problem. He can only remember things for a couple of minutes. He writes things in code but keeps forgetting what the code is. It’s like a ghost town since Desiree returned. Where is everybody? He’ll find everyone. Starting with her sister.
Magda has a showdown with Lew in his office about his feng shui. He educates her about wind and water bringing energy. He like strong entrances and even stronger exits. If she moves one more thing in his office, he knows a lot of people with suction in this town. I mean pull, they have pull. Lew needs his own space. They’ll have to learn to share this space with the faux marble floor. How many productions are using this space? They agree to split days that they use the office. Magda asks who gets the building on weekends. we’ll have to fight for it. Game on, Lew.
Jenny interrupts their negotiations. She is confused by the office layout. Lew and Magda continue to play Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who gets the weekends. Lew tells Jenny that Magda runs it as a shawarma joint on her weekends. Jenny asks if they know anything about the Frogeyes murders that have been happening in his office. A gun always appears from behind the red curtain. At 9:30pm. The Frogeyeses all have something that they want to say something to him, but they die before they can tell him. Maybe if we can delay the gun coming out…
Jenny intercepts Danvers dancing on the street. Is Desiree trustworthy? Did she really go away on her own accord? Jenny thought she knew what to ask, but now she wonders if she she should just join them in their dance. Why not both? Danvers has taught the McGuffin children so many things. Their ABCs. How to read. How to clean the floor. More than she’ll ever know. It’s weird that no one really knows Danvers. They agree. What does Danvers really want? A family of their own, I suppose. Danvers keeps her cards close to her chest. Jenny assumes that she doesn’t have a full house. Jenny asks what they do when they give their best, but it’s not enough. I dance in the street.
When Desiree runs into Magda entering the mansion, she wants to know why she has a key. The explanation shouldn’t fall on children’s ears. Even though Magda always had Lew’s business, he never really had her heart. Lew always wanted to hear his own voice, but he never heard mine. But my father does? Her father is changing. He listens to Magda There were so many times that he didn’t listen to Desiree. When he asked her not to throw her out into the streets, did he listen? No. Magda understand that she probably wants to put her cigarette out on her face. Desiree is a rock, an island. Desiree tells Danvers not to hug her, but don’t pay attention to them turning away. Magda think that instead of Desiree putting her head on Magda’s shoulders, she should but her own on Desiree’s bosom.
Act II
Danvers runs into a stranger on the street. He’s happy to be out of the streets. She wonders about what her family would be like. The stranger is never alone with all the rest of the Frogeyes family. Danvers says that she listens and listens to everyone else, but she never has someone to talk to. Frogeyes will listen to them. Danvers thinks that they’ll have a wonderful night tonight, on a Monday night. coming up on 9:30pm.
Hugo is surprised to see Desiree. He had told her to leave, but he didn’t think that she would do it. He’s trying to make things better with her and her sister. Whatever your name is. What’s up with Magda? Well, it progressed from just talking. Magda caught Desiree in vulnerable moment. What if Magda makes us all love her, and then takes them for everything that they’re worth. We always talk about how much her mother’s death hurt them, but what about her? She was at the bottom of that well for 4 days. They can’t let Magda know that they’re checking up on her.
Lew and Desiree meet by the river. He remembers it before the effluent, and that beach that appeared accidentally. They share a stump. He can see that Magda has charmed her. He falls off the stump. His memories have returned! He will make Magda rue the day that she met Hugo!
Hugo checks in on Lew in his office. Lew tells him that they have a new sandwich on their menu. Who are you kidding, Lew? You hate the smell of gyros. Hugo has a serious question about Magda. Lew wishes him the best with her. Hugo says that he and Desiree are having second thoughts about her. Lew warns Hugo that you need to watch his back around Magda. He hasn’t done his due diligence about her. Lew with her a thick portfolio about her. Keep your head on a swivel when you sleep with Magda.
Magda thinks back on her time in Handy Andy’s trunk while she sits alone in her room. She only saw him for a few brief moments when he opened the trunk before Carol came back. She’s pretty sure that there was a body in there with her. She had thought about how she’d spend the rest of her life if she lived through her experience. She thinks things through before she does things. Desiree doesn’t trust her. She doesn’t know what she went through to get back to Desiree’s father. Once you’ve been in something so energy sucking as Lew she deserves someone better. She may not have been the nicest or the kindest, it’s her turn. She deserves something that is just hers. Can they all just be a family. but Auralee can just suck it.
Lew wanders through South Central Park and the pigeon chorus. They’re his little ears, his little eyes. Where did all the people go? What?!? Better gigs?? He expected so many people here tonight, but only you showed up. He could use some affirmation. They coo that they love him.
Danvers sits alone on the mansion. Lew asks her to hold a seance. He thinks that the pentagram is forboding. Danvers killed a lot on pigeons for their blood. Lew wants to contact Stan Trowel. He wants to now if Magda was cheating on him. He can use the evidence to win their divorce proceedings. Stan tells her that it’s all hidden in his office. She’s been seeing Hugo for a long time. Stan forgives Lew. Lew tells Danvers that he will move heaven and earth to pay them back.
A shaken Lew returns to his office and drinks. A lot. There is a knock at his door. It is the Frogeyes that Danvers her in the park. Lew tells him too leave, quickly! Frogeyes had the best day of his life. Lew holds him. He wants to hold him until maybe 10:00pm. When he steps to the window, shots ring out. FROGEYES!!
