Hello, My Lovely Ragtime Gal (Episode 2)

Act I

Lew and Stan reminisce over the night that Stan was murdered. Stan feels alive, but Lew wonders if he is a ghost or a figment of his imagination. Lew owes him something before he passes on. Together they will find Stan’s murderer. They need to start at the very beginning, a very fine place to start. There was a doe in the road in a ray of light. Then it was just me. When it ran fa far away, Lew took the opportunity to sew up up a bullet wound with a needle puling thread. He has some tea with jam and bread, which brings them back to doe.

Ned guards Geneva from below her in a high tower. Orestes needs to find a way to climb up to her. He can sense her out there. Their hearts converse. If his heart could speak, it would choose its words very carefully to tell here that he wants her near. She gets a funny feeling in her stomach when she thinks of him. Part of his heart belongs to her, but part of her heart belongs to her family. He’ll need to talk to her dad.

Auralee wants her father to forgive his disowned daughter, Desiree. Danvers checks if Hugo is available, but they have trouble remembering Auralee’s name. He catches up with his daughter and asks why she is there. She just wanted to see her dear old dad. No ulterior motive? She thought she would stay for a while and asks where her sister is. She’s looking for the Maltese Turfucken. He’s thinking of hiring a PI to help find it. Auralee doesn’t trust them. Is that because you were married to one? She wants to have the happiest family, which includes Desiree. Hugo tells her they had an argument and Desiree ran off. Auralee wonders why Danvers is cleaning with their body. Why break what works? Auralee and Danvers go out. Desiree had better be there when she gets back.

Lew and Stan act out their escapade. Stan feels brave and wants to go first around the corner, into danger. He gets his eyebrow shot off. Lew has one long eyebrow, enough for the two of them. Cranny and One-Eyed Kitty are the ones shooting at them. Stan can’t help himself peeks around the corner and is shot repeatedly. One-Eye is the one that killed him.

Jenny sits in a cafe when Lew wanders in. They banter. She has heard that he’s been up to something. He’s been into a lot of things lately. She asks about McGuffin. Which one? The father or the divorcee. Jenny asks about Nikki’s character. Auralee. She hears her name whispered in the wind. She’s wearing a black velvet velour dress, made out of Vantablack. Ah, the Vantablack widow. He points out that she is asking HIM questions. The clown shoe is on the other foot. He’s making it up as he’s going along. She questions the veracity of tips. Jenny wonders if her career will fall like his has fallen. He sees her in high places and tells her to follow him.

Bridgette meets with Hugo. What does he want from her? Well, what’s going on in the club? He can make it worth her while if she gives him some good tips. It depends on what she has for him. She has photographs. You can’t doctor those. You can trust the news. Papers will never die. The photographs tell a lot about what’s going on. Some people are wondering about a girl in as red hat. Some are looking for a turfucken. She shows him the photographs. What the hay? Auralee and Desiree are in the picture. There’s a lot of red hats. You can tell it’s red because it’s a black and white picture. He can pay her off to keep her quiet. About what? Hugo thinks the photo might be staged. She asks what his life insurance policy is like and asks if he wants to get married.

20 minutes later, Bridgette is at Lew’s office door when Auralee arrives. Bridgette tells her that she won’t let Auralee into his office. Lew’s sleeping. Auralee can tell that Bridgette’s a hard working woman and he’s in there, sleeping. PIs are useless. They compliment each other excessively. Bridgette tries on Auralee’s coat and leaves.  She has a bus to catch.

Act II

Lew and Stan are in the alley where Stan was shot. They find some unique shell casings. They both know who uses that type of bullets. Yes, the killer. One-Eyed Jenny? Jacqueline? What was her name? Lew remembers that she changed her name to Bridgette. Stan was seeing Bridgette, but she’s Lew’s girlfriend now. If he solves this murder, Stan will go away and lose the love of his life. If not, Stan will stay living in hell.

Orestes and Geneva meet for drinks in a strip club. Geneva is embarrassed. Orestes sneaks in, somersaulting. She think that’s he’s actually attracting more attention that way. They sit near each other and pretend that they both just happen to be there to watch the dancers. Bridgette returns and serves them. Orestes and Geneva make plans to run away together. Orestes tells her that Geneva is going to described the 5 steps they will take to run off together. In song. They will run off as fast as they can until they get tired They’ll end up in a field somewhere and they’ll built a little house. She has never held a tool, but is sure that they can build a house that they can live in forever and ever. Bridgette gives them a bird for good luck, the Maltese Turfucken.

Bridgette searches in Lew’s office when he comes in. She says that was cleaning up. He asks where she got her coat. It’s been really busy at the club. Did she stop at the butcher? Yes, she brought home the bacon, and it’s frying up in a pan. He’s always wondered about the scar on her forehead. When she was a kid, another kid found a bullet and threw it at her really hard. Where did she get those gang tattoos? She got them in the penitentiary. Everyone knows you get the best tattoos there. He know that she’s been spreading rumours about her. Weren’t you named Tiffany Macrame when you were running with that girl gang, The Boxcutters?

Jenny meets with Hugo. She has heard that he hired… an independant seeker.  No one who isn’t fishy doesn’t find a thing for looker. She is the top detective in the force and he has hired a sneaky uncoverer. Why didn’t he go to the police? He didn’t think that they’d be interested. How can they be interested if you don’t tell them? I’m looking for the Maltese Turfucken. What does it look like? It’s kind of small and looks like an exotic bird. There’s a rumour that something is hidden inside and some people are interested in it. He hasn’t seen recently. He keeps it in his safe. He remembers showing it to General Briarwood, maybe a couple of years ago. How does he know it’s missing? He’d heard that it had been stolen. Hugo checked the safe and it was missing. He thinks his daughter took it. People could die over it. Who knows what’s inside?

Auralee meets Lew in his office. He’s not shocked to see her there. He even remembers her full name, after he checks the palm of his hand. He makes her a martini, rimmed with a dirty cigarette. Sparks fly. She’s icy hot, like a dirty Dunhill. Wasn’t that your nickname in high school? No, it’s your mother’s name. They’ve done some digging on each other. They’re spinning their wheels and digging a hole. Finishing each others… words. He knows that people aren’t really after the bird. It’s just a vessel for what’s inside. She seems to know all the answers. What’s inside? She knows all about Lew’s selective lisp. She wants to tell him to stay away from this case. They both are looking for Bridgette. Stay away from the Maltese Cocksucker. Lew says that he doesn’t work blue.

Danvers was cleaning the side of the house when they climb into the window to talk to Hugo about Desiree. He must forgive her. She’s always been trouble. He’s supposed to look after them the way Danvers has for all these years. They have been there for them. They has cleaned for them with their own two cheeks. It’s time to show up, sir. It’s time for him to clean up his own messes. He’s always had to deal with their shenanigans. It’s time to show up, or they will take them for themself. You have to bring Desiree back. It’s time. It’s time.

Lew realizes that Bridgette was Stan’s killer. They meet on the roof of his office building. He may be a primal bastard beast, but she’s a betrayess. He trusted her. Deep down in his heart he knew that she was responsible for Stan’s death. Why doesn’t she just admit that she killed his partner? If you loved me once… Maybe you belong in a prison colony, like Australia. She knows he won’t do anything. Stan tells Lew to kill her. Stan says that if he loves him, he will throw her off the building. Lew just wants to hold her tight. She smells just like his mother. You murderess. He chokes her to death.

Lew runs down to his office. A strange figure walks in. Are you Lew Duluth. He’s Joe Frogeyes. He knows that he looks a lot like his brother Peter, except he has more hair. He came to tell him what he knows about the bird. Lew needs to know what’s inside the bird. just as he starts to tell him what is inside the Falcon, a gun appears and Joe Frogeyes is shot dead. Frogeyes!!
